Instead, choose unbleached white or off-white cotton-rag mount boards, which are pH neutral and will not interact with the chemicals in the artwork. ‘These are acidic, so they are not suitable for artworks,’ says Gabriel Toso of Pendragon Frames, N15. ‘A cut-out window mount with a bevelled edge suits most pictures, but art with torn edges looks best if floated on top of the mount,’ says Doug Constable from the online framer King & McGaw.
